In this historic, important and interesting time, Your Eden Work has turned a year old! It is important to have a blog like this committed to bringing you information and inspiration pertaining to Christian purpose and entrepreneurship, both from a biblical and current-events perspective.
There were times that I wanted to give up. We have had technical problems with the blog (and some we’re still working on), and at times I didn’t feel there was much to blog about (I had stopped blogging for a little over four months).
Then two things inspired me to keep going. One is the events of our time, with the election of a new president that inspires hope and change for the world, and the drastic change in the U.S. and world economies.
But the most important thing that inspired and still inspires me to keep going is you, my readers. The fact is that there has been little change in the subscriber numbers for Your Eden Work, even though I had taken that “blogging hiatus.” And some of you told me that you really missed and looked forward to the posts (Thanks Daisy and Kelly and those I’m forgetting to mention!:o) )
So thanks all of you who stayed with us and welcome to all of you who are coming aboard. This tells me that Y.E.W. is relevant and applicable to your life in some way. And thank you for your encouragement and steadfastness.
Some new changes will be implemented soon, including a new blog that is a “spinoff” from this one.
So again, thank you for being the great readers you are, keep us in your prayers (and we’ll be doing the same for you) and by all means “STAY TUNED!” ;o)

One of the very first posts for this blog was about Dr. King and entrepreneurship. Little did I know that one year later, we would be on the verge of the inauguration of America’s first African-American president, and that it would happen during the worst financial time since the Great Depression.
As I said in last year’s post, Dr. King was known to have said something concerning black entrepreneurship. But many say that King was more concerned about a redistribution of wealth.
Nevertheless, we need to see entrepreneurship as a primary vehicle for the distribution of wealth today, because we live in a different time and a different context. We live in a day where there are more opportunities for everyone (at least in America) and there is more hope in many parts of the world, especially because of his election.
As President-Elect Obama said, we want people to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps, but first we’ve got to give them some bootstraps! He has a plan to help give entrepreneurs and small business people some bootstraps, but as he has been quick to say that government can’t do it alone. We as Christians know it takes prayer, Scripture study, and education.
Oh, and as Dr. King would probably agree, faith and hope…some things never change.

Whether it’s a small business, home business, ministry, or some other type of Christian entrepreneurship, 2009 is your time to find your Eden work and get it started!
I don’t know if you noticed it, but the day of the Lehman Brothers debacle, when this economy started to downturn (at least when we recognized it), the Dow Jones index plummeted by 777.08 points!
Did you get that number? 777.08 points! In Biblical numerological terms, the number ”7″ is the number for God, for Divinity, and the number “8″ is the number for new beginnings.
Do you think God could be telling us that He is still “in charge,” and that He wants to take us Christians (and unbelievers, for that matter) to new beginnings?
Stay tuned for my next post, reason #1 of the series “8 Reasons Why Most Christians are Financially Broke,” as this will be the first of a series of posts as to how we can get things started in 2009 together, whether it be a small business, home business, ministry, or any type of Christian entrepreneurship.

Oh, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!

I was reading in the book of Galatians the other day, and this verse, the words of the Apostle Paul, got me thinking:
(for He who worked effectively in Peter for the apostleship to the circumcised also worked effectively in me toward the Gentiles) - Galatians 2:8 (NKJV)
Paul was sent to the Gentiles to give them the Gospel; Peter was sent to the circumcised, or the Jews to give them the Gospel. The word apostle refers to someone who has been given a mission or has been sent, so those who have been given an apostleship have been sent - on a mission.
This broadening of the concept of apostleship can also be extended to purpose: What are you sent to do? Do you know? Are you doing it? What’s stopping you?

I was watching Jesse Duplantis, one of the funniest preachers I ever heard, on TV last night. Somehow he started talking about retirement, and I heard him ask, “How can you retire from your calling?”
That’s a great question. If God calls you to do something, how can you just “quit” when you get “older?” Yes, you might cut back, but quit?
There was an article recently in The New York Times concerning a book entitled Working Longer: The Solution to the Retirement Income Challenge
that makes the argument for people working longer. The article brings up something relevant to Christian entrepreneurship:
“…the authors remind us that ‘employers in the past have not been eager to retain or hire older workers, and there is little indication that attitudes have significantly changed.’ After all, they say, employers are not in the business of providing retirement security.”
So you know what we you need to do? Yes, no matter what your age, if you haven’t yet done so, you need to start your own business or ministry. But first, you need to find your calling; then learn how to transform it into a business or a ministry. First read my book, which will help you to find your calling and get you in the mentality for Christian entrepreneurship.
Remember what Caleb said when he was 85 years old!
